  2. TROUBLE SHOOTING
  3.  
  4. Here are some hints to help with common problems.
  5.  
  6. A)If Installation does not go smoothly:
  7.  
  8.     1) Turn off all TSR's (Terminate and Stay
  9.     Resident Programs) before installating any
  10.     program. Examples of such programs are virus
  11.     scanners, screen savers, Windows resource 
  12.     monitors and Windows RAM doublers.
  13.     
  14.     2) If you load various programs upon Windows
  15.     startup by placing them in the Startup Group,
  16.     rename this group before installing your new
  17.     program. When the installation is completed,
  18.     change the name of this group back to Startup.
  19.     
  20.     3) If you load programs upon Windows startup with
  21.     a load statement in win.ini, disable those statements
  22.     by placing a semi-colon (;)before each line that 
  23.     begins with 'load'. Load statements may be found at
  24.     the top of the first section of win.ini which is called
  25.     [windows].
  26.     
  27.     4) If these procedures are difficult for you, consult 
  28.     your DOS and Windows manuals.
  29.     
  30. B) If the software does not run properly after installation, 
  31. consider the following before contacting us for tech support.
  32.  
  33.     1 )Reality Software Windows programs will most likely not 
  34.     operate properly on PC's with only 4Meg of RAM. 6Meg of 
  35.     RAM may also not suffice on machines that have not been 
  36.     optimized to the max and rigorously maintained.
  37.     
  38.     3) If you use your PC often (several days per week) and 
  39.     you do not regularly run the DOS utility CHKDSK, learn how 
  40.     to do so immediately. If you do not regularly defragment 
  41.     your hard drive, learn how to do so immediately. If you do 
  42.     not regularly surface scan your hard drive, do so immediately.
  43.     
  44.     2) Do not run our software with your monitor resolution 
  45.     set at 16 million colors unless you have previously determined 
  46.     that your PC can handle such resource stress. While 
  47.     most video cards manufacturers state that their card will 
  48.     display 16 million colors, this may not be possible if 
  49.     there is not enough memory on either the card or PC 
  50.     motherboard. Be certain that the video card is properly
  51.     configured for refresh rate, etc.
  52.     
  53.     3) It is common to have video card - motherboard mismatch, 
  54.     particularly with high end video cards and the first 
  55.     generation of Pentium PC's that had hybrid PCI-IDE motherboards.
  56.     If you are experiencing display problems with some programs, 
  57.     but not others in a manner that appears inconsistent, contact 
  58.     the maker of your video card for tech support and driver updates.
  59.  
  60.     When do we see true Plug and Play? Not yet, Windows 95 notwithstanding.
